Mentoring and Invention

Good Mentoring Insures your Success as an Inventor!

Quite often when we start something new we feel like we have to do it on our own.  Our pride, shyness or stubbornness keeps us from asking for help. We “steel up” and “run through the gauntlet” making all of the mistakes and experiencing the pain associated with having to learn on our own.  On the other side of the gauntlet we can stand up and claim to be heroes.

However, with regards to the inventive process the mistakes can be quite costly.  The invention game is won by who’s first and the cleverest at cost management.  Even though you have the capability to learn the inventive process on your own, the mistakes associated with trying to be 1st and controlling your cost could keep you from eventual success.  You might finish with a patent, but because of the way the process and disclosure worked your product is too pricey for the market.  Or even worse, there is not the market for your product that you hoped for.

Good inventors use mentors to coach them through the patent and entrepreneurial process. A good mentor has been through the patent process several times and can help guide you through the legal maize that determines the potential width of your product base. A good mentor will help you understand the entrepreneurial process, guiding you through the details using the most cost effective choices.  Look around and find someone who could help you quickly and cheaply through your invention. RArnold
