Design to Cost Today

Design to Cost is a key tool for Inventors and Entrepreneurs in insuring the success of their products.  There is no wanting of good ideas for invention or starting out a company.  The problem is that most of the good ideas are not good commercial products.  This is why most inventions fail in the marketplace. While the inventor will examine and prove out the technological feasibility of their product they neglect to prove the commercial worthiness of their ideas. Design to cost ties the product back to the commercial marketplace in the early stages of product development. The inventor and entrepreneur will move forward spending money to develop their ideas in a rush to be the first to market, but they overlook the discipline of Design to Cost, which is there to help them evaluate whether or not their product will make it in the commercial or whatever market place they are focused upon.

Successful companies use some form of Design to Cost, although it may not be tied together as tightly as we have made it for Inventors and Entrepreneurs in our training programs.   We have laid out the necessary principles of analysis that will help give you the best bet for commercial success.  Dr. Granville Ott was one of the creators of Design to Cost and we have captured the analysis techniques that he used with a very successful career in Commercial products with Texas Instruments.  If you add Design to Cost to your new product creation you will maximize your chances of success in the marketplace.  Our Design to Cost training is full of case studies that will help you learn the step by step analysis that Granville Ott and Richard Arnold have used for successful invention and the creation of the best ideas for commercialization.
